At 59 years of age, already a veteran portfolio manager and executive at a number of Bay Street firms, our founder, Briar Foster, struck out on his own to establish a truly independent investment dealer, Foster & Associates Financial Services Inc. A laser focus on the interest of clients was the only mantra. That meant no corporate finance work, no underwritings, no proprietary mutual funds or other structured product. Nothing that could, by perception or reality, create an additional conflict between the interests of the advisor and the client.
From an initial staff of three, to now over thirty, the firm has been growing organically over the past decades, relying on a steady growth in number of clients served and assets under management. No mergers, no buy-outs, no splashy acquisitions.
At 81 years of age, Briar retired from day to day responsibilities, but he remains on our Board of Directors, ensuring that the values that founded the firm continued to be expressed in everything we do.
